Yanfly Engine ReDux – Display Party Data

2009, February 23

I got pretty fed up with only seeing two statuses, no visual party members, and wondering why RPG Maker VX went back to RPG Maker 2000’s hud when RPG Maker XP’s hud was already good. I went ahead and mixed what I could for the two huds and came up with this. It’s not the greatest thing ever, but I like a lot more than what it was before. Main reason is because the original RPG Maker VX hud could only display two status effects. That generally isn’t enough for me. This one’s capable of displaying up to 4. Since there’s not too much modifiable content with this script, I’ll go ahead and explain what this script can do right here. You can turn on/off the face art. You can modify face opacity. You can turn on/off the sprites. You can change how many status effects it’ll show maximum.

One of the things I’m hoping to do in the future is to have a scrolling status effect bar like STR did. That will certainly let me compact the hud a bit more than I’m originally allowed to.

Made Youmu Cutin

And so, that’s four cutins made. Yeah… definitely not gonna stick four cutins all in at once. Things are already cramped enough with two and having double that is beyond troublesome. With this milestone reached though and tested, I think I can safely say I’ll stick with a max of two. Possibly one. Cluttering the screen isn’t something an RPG should do after all. Well, time to start scripting some of the more important stuff…

Maid Sakuya Cutin

Sakuya cutin is made and I’ve shrunk the other cutins by a good 10%. Looking at the size of the cutins still, I probably won’t be sticking more than 4 to a screen. It’s pretty clumped up already with three. I’m still unsure about what to do as a standard cutin size yet so I’ll probably keep experimenting a bit whenever I make more. I think the main issue I’m going to have is figuring out a way to show cutscenes with all these cutins shown. We’ll see what happens later on.

I made Reimu’s cutins yesterday. I was about to begin making a massive amount of them, but when I plugged it into RPG Maker VX, I’ve came to the realization that the sizes I’ve been giving out might be a little too big. I’ll probably shrink it down another third or so of the size since you can barely see the playing field there. Makes it kinda hard to know what’s going on and I plan to put in more than just two cutins at one time (max of four cutins). Puh, I’ll resize it later and experiment around.

Yanfly Engine ReDux – Display Target Data

2009, February 19

displaytargetdata

The prototype Yanfly Engine had HP bars planted beneath the target’s name in the selection window. This new version changes the selection window from being two columns to one column and using the space of what used to be the second column to fill in for the enemy data. What the former version couldn’t do before was display the enemy’s HP amount, the enemy’s MP, and no more than 3 or 4 status effects without it overlapping the enemy’s name. Unlike the other two scripts I’ve posted a few days ago, this one is plug-and-play. Just insert the script and you don’t have to touch anything else to get it working. Of course, if you’d like to customize it a bit more, there are various options that will let you change it however you see fit.
